What is Important for Amazon Advertising in 2023

Whether you're just starting out advertising on Amazon or you're a seasoned seller, advertising on Amazon is crucial for any business or brand trying to expand its business on Amazon.

In 2023, paying attention to your Amazon advertising has become more important than ever. Online shopping has become the norm over the last few years, and the recent pandemic has only accelerated this trend.

With physical stores shutting down and footfall dropping, more and more people have been turning to online marketplaces like Amazon to buy what they need.

Large commercial brands have been forced to make the switch online...

They have larger advertising budgets and deeper pockets to spend on advertising...

As the largest marketplace in the world, Amazon is the natural choice for many shoppers and sellers. In fact, Amazon is also the 3rd largest advertiser in the world, behind Facebook and Google.

Amazon has realized the value of its advertising section and has slowly transitioned their platform into a pay-to-play. Pay-to-play meaning, in order to get your products to be seen and for you to increase your sales, you need to “pay” for it.

I know this firsthand, as I've spent close to $1.5 million on Amazon PPC advertising in the last three years alone!

Based on my experience, It's evident that the cost of advertising on Amazon is rising. And the percentage of sales from advertising compared to organic sales is also gradually increasing. (which means we are paying more to get the same level of sales, which results in increased costs and lower margins).

The shift has resulted in a higher proportion of sales attributed to paid ads, with the split between paid to organic sales creeping up to almost 50/50. (it used to be on average around 70/30).

It is important to remember to note that this ratio may vary depending on the product, market, and brand presence.

✦ To achieve success in online advertising on Amazon, it's crucial to play by the rules and maximize the use of Amazon's PPC and DSP.

The platform has evolved, and advertising norms have shifted, making it increasingly challenging to achieve the outcomes we desire

The black hat strategies and rank-boosting hacks that worked for many years are no longer effective. And so now we are more reliant on our Amazon PPC and advertising skills.

✦ To succeed in 2023, you need to have a clear understanding of your advertising strategies and where your money and efforts are being directed.

With the right skills and knowledge, you'll have a better understanding of what changes to make, which factors to tweak, and what results to expect.

Investing time and effort in learning the basic fundamentals and applying them to your business is crucial. Staying educated and continuously improving your PPC and brand representation is vital to avoid falling behind.
