How the Theory of Marginal Gains Transformed My Amazon Business to 8 Figures
Adam Zulqarneyn
I've been on Amazon since 2016 and in that time I've come to realize that success is not necessarily built on making large, sweeping changes. Instead, it’s the small, consistent steps we take every day that lead to lasting success.
This is known as the "theory of marginal gains" or "the power of 1% improvement".
Think about it, have you ever tried to make a big change in your life or business, only to find yourself quickly falling back into old habits? It can be overwhelming and incredibly tough to stick to and maintain, right?
During my first years of launching my Amazon business, I thought that the key to success and reaching my goals was by making "a big difference in my business". But that was a totally incorrect approach.
things would always go wrong and there were many factors that I couldn't control which would result in me not achieving my goals. This led to a lot of frustration and mental turmoil due to the lack of progress.
It was only up until 2018 when I really started to see significant results in my business. And it was through the process of “marginal gains''. I've applied this principle ever since and it has allowed me to reach 8-figures in private label sales on Amazon, multi 7-figures in wholesale on Amazon, and become really good at PPC. Really good at PPC to the point where we decided to do it for others.
In one of the brands we took over, we managed to increase sales by 61% and reduce the acos by 20% in 6 months (In an extremely competitive category).
And it was all through the practice of "marginal gains" or in other words known as “the power of 1% improvement”. Marginal gains is the concept that small yet significant improvements can lead to monumental results.
The Great British Cycling team applied this principle and went from never winning in over 100 years of the sport to winning 5 out of 6 championships.
I applied it to my Amazon business and saw a significant increase in sales, ranking, ppc, market share, and profit.
To maximize your results on Amazon, look at adopting the principle of marginal gains in your business and life:
1. Identify areas in your business that need improvement
2. Make a list of small changes to make in each area
3. Focus on the ones with the quickest turnaround and largest impact
4. Implement the changes and track results
5. Continuously look for new areas to improve and revisit the process as often as possible.
It's all about patience and consistency. It just requires a bit of planning and dedication, but it gives you focus, purpose, and a sense of direction and sets you up for sustainable success.
